excellent luck*
I would say hard work and dedication and also a bit of excellent luck. You have to be a self-promoter. In other words, talk yourself up and get to know some scouts and get noticed. If you don’t get noticed, no one’s going to know your talents. As far as getting to the majors, I would say for head-over-heels you have to throw at least in the low 90s. You hear coaches and scouts say that speed isn’t everything, but you know what? It does. You can’t GET to the majors throwing 82-83, although once you get there and you learn your craft you can be converted into more of a control pitcher. I just reckon you have to open the eyes of major league scouts. Scouts draft on potential, so if you come into a tryout overweight, out of shape, and throwing the ball without much life then they’ll look the other way. It is MUCH simpler in my opinion to get drafted as a pitcher than a fielder. Excellent head-over-heels is rarer.
