Why do so many college football players come from Hargrave Military Academy?

Iѕ іt related tο thе post-grad program? Dο thеу fix kids grades οr mаkе thеm smarter ѕο thеу саn bе NCAA eligible? Iѕ thе football team a hυgе deal ѕο thеу bring іn thе older kids οr a touch? Dο thеу hаνе tο pay οr аrе thеу οn scholarship?

This is news to me. Where is your evidence at? How many players have been selected from this academy over other colleges?

  • bubbs says:

I have to agree with Lonnie. Have you actual evidence of this? I haven’t heard of a lot of players coming from this school.

It’s a school to get kids ready for college in VA. Lots of these kids are from the 757 area code.

Hargrave Military Academy’s a prep school. They recruit football players, mostly from VA and MD high schools, many with excellent attitudes but unsatisfactory educations due to the quality of their school or inadequate study lifestyle. The kids make the commitment to comply with the austere military discipline that includes academics. Most learn the excellent academic lifestyle necessary for college. The school is a recruiting hot bed for the Huge Ten, Huge East, ACC, and SEC. Penn St. seems to get quite a few so you can be sure it’s not grade fixing operation.

HMA is one of many prep schools across the USA that have post grad athletics programs, mainly football and basketball. Many non academic qualifiers out of HS go to these schools and play for a year to get their core GPA up to standard or their ACT/SAT score up to be NCAA eligible. What makes these schools so attractive to athletes is that they can play a year without losing any college athletic eligibility. Nearly like a 5th year of HS. It allows for a extra year of growth and maturity, some players may have the grades coming out of HS but were under recruited or may not have got the opportunity to play as much as they would have liked in HS. Some prep schools could cost as much as 50K a year to concentrate, so to be excellent enough to get a scholarship is the criteria for the prep school coach. It is a very competitive situation to concentrate and scholarships are limited. Many huge time University’s send their non qualifiers to these schools for a year so they will be converted into eligible and stay sharp athletically. For those of you who haven’t heard of HMA go to there web site and see for yourself what Colleges and Universities their players are being placed to on athletics scholarships year in and year out.
